Dotmaster

The Dotmaster

Dotmasters is the co-founding member of C6.org. This is a new-media-based collective of art-pranksters, active throughout the 90’s In 1997 they hit the headlines worldwide with their Man in a Box performance when he was incarcerated in a surveillance cube in a gallery in Brighton, without any food, only 15l of water for a week. The collective’s merged graffiti, performance, and new media. It was an ideal training ground for the unfairground. With an on and off apprenticeship amongst the Mutoid waste Dept during the Trash city  (Glastonbury) and Mutate Britian, (Cordy house, Shorditch)  over a decade ago.

One fateful show ironically called “One foot in the Grove” Dot and Sam first collaborated, Dot painting a halftone wallpaper pattern over Sams jaguar skulled bi plane…(I know you couldn’t make this shit up!)

A deep recognition of wrong was firmly established and the unfairground is in part a way a response.

The Dotmaster is a UK artist who started painting on the streets of Brighton in the early ’90s. He takes a sideways look at a populist media with a typically English sense of humour. His work is impeccably detailed – his half-tone work, stark black and white street pieces and unique, photo-real colour stencils all create street-based illusions that fool the eye.

Invited to take part in Banksy’s Waterloo ‘Cans Festival’ and featuring in the Oscar-nominated ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop’, The Dotmaster exhibits internationally.

A driving force behind the Nuart festival in Norway, he has collaborated with grass roots activists, luxury brands, Glastonbury festival, weirdos, developers and drop outs.

There is NO subculture ONLY subversion.

Work has been shown at the Cabaret Voltaire, CH, ICA, UK, kunstnernes Hus, NO, Museum of modern art Gulbenkian foundation, PT and London Underground.

Video Visuals supplied for The Buzzcocks, Steve ignorant, chuck palahniuk, Irvine welsh, Phil Hartnol, Longrange and Second Life,
